Obsession World System

Cornwall Coliseum 20th November 1993

Following Obsession’s many successes at Plymouth’s Warehouse, moving West to a new county and venue - the Cornwall Coliseum in St. Austell - was, as far as we’re concerned, the best idea they’ve ever had. This was borne out by the huge turn out of Obsession followers (3,500 plus!) and the quality DJ’ing. It was certainly a night that will be remembered.

In the main arena the evening kicked off with Belgium’s C.J. Bolland, who played an uplifting set (unless you were one of the many still stuck in the huge queues outside the main entrance). This really set the scene for a wicked night.

Unfortunately Laurent Garnier from Paris, who was listed as playing second, was nowhere to be seen, but Obsession successfully filled the gap and no one really minded, especially with Easygroove on next kicking up a frenzy. He was followed by another two of the South-West’s favourite DJ’s - Sy and Ellis Dee - who played some wicked sounds and had everyone up on their feet. This was enhanced by Obsessions excellent lighting and visuals, which really was a mind blowing experience (especially the Zebra - Sam C).

Finally on the decks were DJ’s Destruction and Scotty, well known around the county, who sent everyone (including any late arrivals) wild, and brought the evening to a stompin’ end. It ended at around 2.30am (a bit earlier than the advertised time of 3am). MC’s Ribbs and Techno did a sound job. Robbi Dee ended the night by raffling off his jacket for a small fortune. In the progressive zone the music was on the hard house tip, with DJ’s including Peer and Mike C. All in all Obsession get top marks from us for a kickin night, hopefully to be repeated at the same venue on New Years Eve for f**ks sake don’t miss it.
